Our governor just signed a bill into law that makes it an assault & battery to 'reach for' or 'gain control of' a police officer's or prison / correctional officer's weapon. Penalty... up to 5 years. Just reaching for... not actually getting your hand on it apparently is enough to get you charged with A&B.
No room for abuse here ! Some LEO or prison guard wants to be a A hole... simply says in his report that you attempted to grab his weapon and you are looking at 5 years in prison. How would you defend yourself against a false claim.. unless you had a unimpeachable witness or a video... as otherwise it would be your word versus a uniformed officer's word.
If your record wasn't spotless.. you'd be in a lot of trouble trying to defend yourself.
I'd copy & paste the short article.. but don't like to do that with AP copy righted stuff.

Now in Oklahoma, simply reaching for a LEO's gun can get you up to 5 yrs!
