Seems like buckshot is almost always superior except in cases where penetration / range is needed? You get 9+ pellets instead of just one projectile, thus a higher chance you will hit something.
flite control wad like LE12700 gives reasonable patterns up to 40 yards and a slug has decent accuracy a little further than that.
