I got pulled over...

samedi 28 février 2015

No, that's not the main theme of the thread. :whistling:

It's the event that lead to the main theme of the thread.

So, I'm driving into town in a 60mph zone following an SUV about 5 car lengths behind when a semi went by (2-lane rural highway) and the SUV swerved to the side of the road. The driver corrected, then accelerated rapidly. We had been going around 64mph and the SUV accelerated to around 75mph.

Odd behavior, and being around 8pm on a Saturday night, possibly DUI related. So I accelerated to keep up with the SUV and observe if there was any other erratic behavior. I caught up and stayed a few car lengths behind and the SUV slowed to around 70mph, but no further evidence of impairment.

At that time, a county deputy went past, did a U-turn, and pulled me over.

He clocked me at 70mph and I explained why I was speeding. He let me go with a warning and was perfectly professional.

I continued into town and stopped at a Subway where a State Trooper car was parked out front. I went inside and the trooper was a friend of mine. He kidded me about being pulled over, said he heard my info go out on the radio, then told me that the officer that stopped me wasn't certified and couldn't have issued me a ticket, anyway.

He said that the county hires new guys, they go through an FTO program, then go to POST, then come back to the department and undergo further FTO training. My friend was not happy about that; said if I had been a DUI, then he would have had to go assist the deputy and be sidelined for hours.

How common of a thing is this in other agencies? The idea of a department letting guys go out and run traffic with no certifications seems a bit risky... :dunno:

I got pulled over...

What Music Album/Tape/CD Do You Know Best?

Which one have you bought and worn out the greatest number of times? Which one do you know every word, every note, every chord of every song?

For Me, it is the Pink Floyd The Wall set. I've bought it at least a dozen times, in different media. Most were worn out. I've was stolen out of a buddy's truck. Now I have it on iTunes. I know these songs like the back of my hand. They are an old friend, who doesn't drink up all of my booze and stop up my toilet.

.223/5.56 ammo ban lurking. Shelves are bare!

Yesterday my son asked if I had heard of any ammo ban. I had not. He told me he got something on a twitter feed from Cabella's. I looked today and sure enough it is in the works. The shelves at WM were bare. A few days ago they were stockpiled with a bunch.

Public comment is open till 3-16 to the BATFE. As of righ now they want to ban M-855 which as anybody who shots AR's enough will run across some. Not bad stuff identified by the green tip.

Earlier this week I had seen or read something by Frank Proctor who talked about how the green tip stuff was not truly AP. He was speaking about personal experience on steel he had been shooting for years. He said the only stuff that had went through his plates was some M-193 and his personal opinion after a chrono test was the M-193 was hitting 3K plus FPS and the M-855 was steady at around 28-2900 FPS.

I am gonna write anyone and everyone I can think of to try and stop this. They could not ban the black rifle so now they are after the ammo.

If anybody else has information please share. This is crazy.

Left Using Fake Statistics to Argue Against Welfare Drug Testing

I just noticed this, after looking up some articles on the subject, based on another discussion.

The left keeps telling us that "Only 2% of Florida welfare recipients tested positive for drugs, compared to 8% of the population as a whole, so drug testing is a waste of money;" and "only 0.02% of Tennessee welfare recipients tested positive for drugs."

Anybody who has every worked in law enforcement, social services, etc., knows that statistic is impossible - something is obviously wrong.

Wait a minute...didn't Florida's testing get halted by court order? So only 2% of their small sample tested positive? Nope - much more obvious fraud. Take a look"

Those are solid numbers, how can they be lying? Well, what they left out was that Tennessee only tested 279 of the 16,000 and 37 of them tested positive, so the real rate is over 13% - more than 1 in 8 welfare recipients, but they imply, to deliberately mislead you, that only 37 of the whole 16,000 failed. Another article, where I got the "279" went so far as to state the raw numbers and then claim that only 0.02% of the welfare recipients failed a drug test...which is technically true, but statistically and obviously false.

In the past, Glock Talk's lefties have cited these same statistics.

So when faced with this argument, keep in mind the fraud the liberals are pulling here. Find the raw numbers of those tested and those failing and see what the real statistic is.

Anybody got a source for the real numbers in Florida?

Used to be when scrolling thru forums and hovered my cursor over a topic, it would open up a "preview" of the first few lines until I moved the cursor.

Now (starting about a month ago) it only opens the "preview" for about 1/2 a second.

I miss the former way as it afforded me a quick way to see if I wanted to click on the post and read it.

Mech Tech CCU for a Glock 19 9mm

I have a 1 year old Mech Tech CCU for a Glock 19 9mm. It has the M4 stock, mini-quad rail, flip up front and rear sights, feed ramp, and a TruGlo red/green dot sight. It is in excellent condition and has been shot very little. Over $750 dollars new. You can check them out at mechtechsys.com as well as videos on youtube.

Looking to trade for a Glock 26 Gen 4 with a FDE frame, may consider other Glocks if I can't find one, but that is top on my list. I do have Iowa drivers license and CCW, prefer face to face transaction, SE Iowa.

Hey all - Wichita

I just came across this site. I want to say hi.

Hey all - Wichita

How did they get my e-mail address?

I was on the Sears website looking at water heaters. I then left and went to the Lowe's and Home Depot websites to see what they had. A short while later, I receive an e-mail from Sears asking "Are you still interested?" with a link in the e-mail to the water heater I viewed. I didn't didn't give them my e-mail address. It seems they "searched" my computer to find it. What setting(s) can I change to prevent this?

Oh yeah...just one more reason to NEVER, EVER, EVER DEAL WITH SEARS.:steamed: (I didn't plan on actually purchasing from them, I just wanted to check pricing.)

How did they get my e-mail address?

Vickers tactical Glock 17 range report.

I had a chance to take this beauty out to the range a while back. I fired a total of 120 rounds. These consisted of Fiocchi 115 grain range fodder, along with one magazine of Hornady Critical Duty 135 grain +p. I experienced zero malfunctions

Overall, I absolutely love this weapon. The rough textured frame feels excellent in my hands and offers plenty of traction. Also, I find the Vickers battlesights to be pretty easy to pick up.

I only have two minor complaints. First, the slide finish seems to smudge or blemish easily. Also, with my vision difficulties, I would have liked to see some fluorescent paint around the tritium front sight.

Overall, I couldn't be happier. I was definitely lucky to be one of the few to get my hands on one. If anyone would like to see some pictures, I'll try to upload some later. There is also a picture in one of my previous threads. :-)

First world problems. I'm visiting the parents. Yes, I still cherish having them around. They have a 48" HD TV. They swear they see no difference between HD and non-HD TV. They only watch the old channels they are used to and don't watch the HD tier.

Anyone else not see a difference? I feel like I may as well be watching black and white

Despite the snow in DFW, I just picked this up!

Thanks to the advice of Bac and others here, I went ahead and picked up this late 1970's Beretta 92S from a guy locally. Includes original matching box with import tag, all papers, and bore brush. Appears to have not been fired much. We settled on $550 which seems to be a good deal. It's my first Beretta.

At the center of the whole "militarization" debate: A fundamental mistake

This is from the Facebook Page of Survive the Streets: A Page for Cops. Some of you do not participate on Facebook, so this is the whole piece.

Quote:

A follower, Paul, raised a good point. At the center of the whole "militarization" debate lies a fundamental mistake in the minds of those who believe police are becoming militarized. They are confusing gear with mission.

It's true. Specialized police equipment is similar to modern military equipment. The type of war the military currently fights, though, is an urban style with a house to house, structure to structure approach with an embedded combatant. It is very similar to the type of confrontations police encounter, so the equipment is similar, or even the same in some cases.

What remains fundamentally different, though, are the goals of law enforcement and the military. Despite what anti-cop propaganda tells you, the mission of police is to preserve the peace and enforce the law. The specialized equipment used by police allows them to do that with a greater degree of proficiency and safety for themselves, suspects, and the public at large.

An honest assessment by us will reveal that there are cases in which that specialized equipment is utilized when it might not have been necessary or warranted, and mistakes are sometimes made with tragic outcomes. While few and far between and usually without any malice intended, such things do still happen. As a group, we must strive to achieve perfection. Despite the unachievable status of so lofty a goal, we should never stop trying to hit that mark.

It is our duty to have intelligent discussion with those that do not understand why we need such equipment. Educating them on why and proving to them that we can judiciously use that equipment is unbelievably valuable for us. Before anyone throws out the "a lion doesn't concern himself with the opinions of sheep" quote, keep in mind that those sheep control the purse strings that allow us to have the equipment necessary to do our jobs. Their opinion matters, and only a fool would think otherwise.

That's my rant for the day. Stay safe. Protect the flock. Hunt the wolf.

Obama Dares GOP: Go Ahead, ‘Have a Vote on Whether What I’m Doing Is Legal…

http://ift.tt/1vEIQuS

We have a scorpion masquerading as president, who at the very least, is just as anti-American and twice as dangerous to the internal security of the USA as any other islamic entity, including isis. Whats horrifying however is that the two rodents heading up both houses could care less, what matters to them being themselves, and the lobbies who oversee them and all that they do!

BTW, the rationale offered by the agent of islam is that what he is doing is the right thing to do, which isn't of course an authority offered him anywhere in the US constitution, the fiend literally is making it all up as he goes along, and virtually unchallenged at that!

Quote:

Pres. Obama is daring Republicans to vote on whether or not his executive actions are legal.

Discussing opposition to his executive amnesty orders at an immigration town hall Wednesday, Obama said he would veto the vote because his actions are “the right thing to do”:

“So in the short term, if Mr. McConnell, the leader of the Senate, and the Speaker of the House, John Boehner, want to have a vote on whether what I’m doing is legal or not, they can have that vote. I will veto that vote, because I’m absolutely confident that what we’re doing is the right thing to do.”

Pakistan: Christian Couple Burned Alive

On November 4th, 2014 Shehzad Masih and his pregnant wife Shama Bibi were beaten and then thrown alive into a brick kiln furnace by a Muslim mob in the village of Chak 59, near Kot Radha Kishan (approximately 37 miles from Lahore.)

Shama was accused of burning pages from the Qur'an. After incited by the mullah of a local mosque, a 600-strong mob gathered and attacked them. The couple, parents of three, were paraded naked and beaten with clubs until their legs were fractured and could no longer walk. Then they were thrown into the furnace.

Funny how these vermin are so often violent right after leaving a mosque.

Pakistan: Christian Couple Burned Alive

Just got a G42

I shot one a while ago, it ate everything well, was very accurate and a soft shooter. So I bought one, brand new this week.

It came with 2 mags and my friend picked up another one for me locally. He met me at the range and I shot well over 100 rounds through it. Various ammo types and some hotter Underwood ammo called +P. We all know that a .380 ACP designation does not exist.

One mag was giving me some issues, one issue I saw on a Youtube video. The hotter ammo would lock back the slide after the round fired. I also had a FTF with one mag, the one my friend bought.

This is what I have since learned about the G42 and I saw it with my own eyes. The new mags say 02 underneath the serial number on the back of the magazine. The old ones do not. It is the old ones that have these issues not mags that say 02. I compared both mags and the 02 looked the same until I closely inspected the front near the top right under the follower. The new mag shows more of the follower. It looks like the front top of the magazine was redesigned and is cut differently.

I contacted the store and explained to the manager. He asked me to come in with both mag types and show him. He checked the other G42 mags he had and none said 02, he seemed a little angry at his distributor and did not doubt me. I checked with the local gun range I went to who is a HUGE Glock distributor in the whole state before I spoke with the manager.

So it seems if anybody has some issues with their G42 first check the mag and make sure it says 02 on the mag.

I also noted that the way the recoil spring meets the barrel is not really secure. It more rides on it than is locked into it. I polished the thin metal piece on the back of the recoil spring and it seats a bit better now. I love the gun but I am thinking of getting an aftermarket recoil spring and assembly as well as the Vickers slide release.

It's a great gun and the right size for the round. I think a 9mm version would be like so many other version of the 9mm small lightweight single stack. They so far as I can tell from owning and shooting them are all deficient in some way. Mostly all are snappy, hard to control little guns with terrible triggers. Handguns that small are better off in .380 ACP IMO. I don't think we'll see a 9mm single stack G42 in 9mm from Glock until they can figure out how to overcome these issues.

I'd rather have an accurate gun in a lighter load than a more powerful round that is hard to hit anything with. The difference might be small, if I am going to bet my life on it I want the gun I shoot the best with and am the most accurate with.

Just got a G42

Sometimes It Is The Small Gestures That Can Mean Volumes Of Truth

Much like how many people use public transportation on daily basis, Ms. Nguyen was taking the subway on her way to JFK airport. She got on the A train at High Street in Brooklyn and began her trip. She realized as the train arrived at the Nostrand Avenue station that she had left her suitcase on the platform at the High Street station. She quickly got off the train and jumped on another to head back to High Street.

Ms. Nguyen arrived back at the High Street station and rushed over to Police Officer Ayala to explain what happened. Officer Ayala assured her she would help her and both walked along the platform to look for the bag. Unfortunately the bag was no longer at the spot she left it. After they spoke with an MTA worker at the station, Ms. Nguyen found out a train conductor noticed the bag and reported it unattended. Attempts to track down the bag’s location continually turned up negative results and she became hopeless thinking she would not find her bag and also miss her flight.

Police Officer Ayala encouraged her not to give up and they both continued trying to track down the bag. As Officer Ayala was filling out a report for Ms. Nguyen, the officer’s phone rang. One of the many MTA workers the officer reached out to was calling her back to let her know the bag was found.

Ms. Nguyen had this to say about Police Officer Nguyen in her letter to Chief Fox, NYPD Chief of Transit- “She displayed an extraordinary amount of professionalism and care representing what is the very finest in the NYPD.”

Michael Savage is a liar...

And I hate liars...

He just announced on his radio show that Obama just outlawed the ammunition for AR15s.

He actually said that Obama made AR15s useless by now banning their ammunition by executive action.

What he failed to mention is that Obama outlawed the M855 green-tipped ammunition over concerns that it can be used in an AR15-style pistol and is armor piercing.

Yes, that is dumb and unconstitutional and another attempt at back door gun control by an anti-American President.

What I don't like is how Michael Savage is using hyperbole and outright falsehoods, just like the left...

I don't care what side of the political fence you are on; lying is lying.

Since I know he is intentionally lying about this issue, how do I believe anything the man says about anything?

Yes, I know all about show business and such, but talk radio is somewhat of a different media; your target audience tends to hold morality and honesty in higher regards than the general public.

By lying about such an issue, he hurts his credibility, and that is a very important commodity in his business...

Judge delays Feds’ Immigration Emergency Stay Motion to next week

Quote:

Yesterday the U.S. government filed an Emergency motion to stay the U.S. District Court’s temporary injunction putting Obama’s immigration executive action on hold. In its Emergency Motion, the Feds threatened that if U.S. District Court Judge Andrew S. Hanen did not grant the stay by the close of business on Wednesday, February 25, the Feds would seek an emergency stay from the 5th Circuit Court of Appeals. The plaintiff States argued that that was too short of a time for them to respond, considering the Feds took a week to bring the Emergency motion. Judge Hanen just ruled that the States had until Monday, March 2, to respond. (Order below). [Update: Changed to March 3

Gun bill 'dead

MONTPELIER – The firearms bill that stirred hundreds of Vermonters at a Statehouse public hearing is effectively "dead," the head of a key Senate committee said Wednesday — a day punctuated by shouting over the fate of the measure.

Hello from Michigan

Not necessarily a complete convert from 1911 but, I did purchase and plan to carry more often, my new G30SF.

I have carried 1911's off duty for most of my career along with a .357 and an XD. To be honest, I was never a Glock hater but I just couldn't get used to the feel of the grip of any of the Glock pistols until now.

I admit being completely ignorant of all things "Glock" but I have always respected the following and the quality. My sister (former LEO) had a .40 Glock (not sure what model) that I helped her learn how to field strip and shoot when she was first starting out. I remember being very impressed with the accuracy back then.

I remain impressed with the accuracy and reliability (feeding) of the 30SF too. And for you 1911 haters out there, I sold a Colt Defender to fund the purchase of the new Glock. :whistling:

But, I still own and love my Colt Commander.

One question from the noob without starting a new thread: How can I extend my round count for the 30SF from 10 to 12 or more? Is that possible? Do they make extensions or, are other .45 ACP magazines interchangeable.

Thanks.

When does/doesn't an off-brand cut it?

I have no aversion to store brands and generics if the quality is there.

Usually the quality is comparable--heck, my favorite cereal is a Kroger-branded product. Sometimes the product itself isn't just similar but exactly the same. But sometimes, it really isn't.

Last week I decided to buy some graham crackers and cream cheese. I hadn't had that combination in forever. The store brand graham crackers were two thirds the price of Honey Maid. The store brand cream cheese was less than half the price of Philadelphia? Why pay more?!

That cream cheese might have just been wax for all I can tell, and those graham crackers should be sold as hardtack.

So when do you demand a name brand, and when do you take anything?

When does/doesn't an off-brand cut it?

Looking at holster options for my Mark II

I have a 5.5" slab sided Mark II Target that needs a holster. I only have the stock sights on it at this point, but I am planning on an upgrade to the sights soon.

I want a holster that fits the gun well and doesn't interfere with mounting a dot sight.

So far i have looked at a Tactical Solutions #BDMHMK01, and a Fobus holster that is less than impressive.

If you have any better alternatives, please share them. The holster will be used mostly at the range and occasionally for small game hunting.

Thanks,

Missing the Hollywood greats...

I saw something today that has been on the Internet for a few years and pops up for recirculation every so often... it sure makes me long for the days when we had more Hollywood actors with with a strong sense of Patriotism, Morals, Ethics and Family Values. They were not perfect.. but I sure wouldn't have been ashamed to have them as a relative, a friend or a neighbor.

Here is a short clip of John Wayne & Dean Martin.... I sure miss that generation of actors!

Glock Maintenance/Rust removal

Hello to all. I didn't see the point in wasting any time so here starts my first thread. I purchased a used G19 (gen 3) the other day from the town pawn shop. While I was there a local deputy came in who happened to be a Glock Armorer. I got him to check out the gun and after checking a few things he said it was good to go. Now that I have it I've noticed very, very small spots that I guess can only be rust. I know these things were built like tanks, but is this something to worry about? Oh yeah, this will be my daily CCW. Thanks for all input.

Just bought a new Glock 20 4th gen, I understand the 4th gen has a dual recoil spring opposed to a signal on the 3rd gen. Trump running for real?

http://ift.tt/1GwF4ET

At a meeting Monday in New York with Reince Priebus, the chairman of the Republican National Committee, Trump said he was actively mulling a presidential run and acknowledged the necessity of formalizing his interest, according to people familiar with the conversation. Priebus, who will remain neutral in the 2016 primaries, took the meeting because of Trump’s status as a prominent donor to the RNC.

For the moment, Trump’s just-tapped consultants will be employed by his personal office, but they are likely to transition over to a new political group in the coming weeks. Donald F. McGahn, a partner at Jones Day, is counseling the businessman as he takes further steps.

Corey R. Lewandowski, a former director of voter registration at Americans for Prosperity, a group backed by conservative industrialists Charles and David Koch, has been asked by Trump to serve as his senior political adviser and manager for the campaign-in-waiting.

Alan Cobb, a former political adviser at Koch Industries, is another Republican who has signed on with Trump and is assisting with recruitment.

The big question is can he convince anyone he is a viable candidate for the job?

Policing — already a dangerous profession — is becoming even more so because of anti-police rhetoric and inaccurate reporting in use of force cases

Quote:

Sep 3, 2014

Picture the following hypothetical scenario: A chief at a press conference states, “Ladies and gentlemen I have gathered you here today, because police use of force cases are routinely mishandled by journalists and community leaders. It is my belief that journalists and community leaders may do a better job in this area if they have at least a basic understanding of what a justified use of force looks like.”

There are three things the public needs to know about contacts with police.

1. Be courteous

2. Be cooperative

3. Be compliant

The subheadings in the article are...

  • Criminality, Not Color

  • Force Options

  • Use of Deadly Force

    • 1. An officer can shoot an unarmed man under certain conditions.

    • 2. An officer can, in certain conditions, shoot someone in the back.

    • 3. Officers are not — and never will be — trained to shoot to wound or shoot weapons out of subjects’ hands.

  • The Bottom Line

Cops are not asking for citizens to get into the arena with them — they would just like the audience to stop cheering for the other team.

The only way to get these three extremely simple ideas out to our communities is for you to take this information and share it, with both your fellow officers and with your community members.

This nifty enhancement is now available for some of the most popular handguns for self defense. It defines the first of its kind, pre-cut handgrip tape for pistols. The trend in modern handgun design incorporates a polymer frame that is lightweight and tends to get slippery when wet or sweaty, severely affecting your grip and accuracy. DecalGrip's are specially designed as pre-cut textured adhesive strips to provide you with a positive grip surface that works wet, dry, hot or cold and are only 1/32" thick for rubber texture and 1/40" thick for sand texture. Exceedingly durable, they won't shift, split or tear. They are resistant to solvents and oils, just peel and adhere. Rubber Texture

Hello from Northern MN

Hello. Shooter, reloader, gunsmith and Glock owner from up north in MN. I have to admit I was originally a Glock hater until I started working on them. Now I can't say I love them but I don't hate them and own several. Been lurking on here for awhile and figured I should join. Thanks for your time.

Hello from Northern MN

Who is still in love with their first car ?

Who is still in love with their first car ?

Long Range Rifle Scopes... 1/8, 1/4, or MILS?

One thing I could use some clarification on. I had been led to believe 1/8 clicks were bad on long distance scopes. Not exactly sure why, aside from clicking 4,234 up and 1,234 right. Hah. Is it about total elevation in MOA?

I see lots of long distance scopes are in fact 1/8 click. Is that for folks shooting 1,000 benchrest only, a known and unchanging target distance?

Whatever the reason, I thought a good long distance target scope needed mil or 1/4 MOA, even heard a few examples of 1/2 MOA Leupold scopes.

I'm going to be shooting my 50 BMG primarily at 1000 yards, a known distance, 18" targets most likely. But I'm also in market for a long distance scope for a 260 Rem or 6.5 Creedmoor that I will use in PRS events, Designated Marksman, and practical long range (prone/bipod) events. These competitions will have me engaging targets of unknown distances from 200-1000 yards.

So am I actually looking for two subsets of long range target scopes? Some with 1/8 clicks, and another with mil or 1/4 clicks?

What am I failing to grasp here? It's the reason I just yanked the Burris Black Diamond 8-32 (1/8 click) off my Armalite 50 BMG in the first place. Seems like the more I learn, the dumber I get.

Someone please break the cycle:supergrin:

Mas suggested I post this here

Sorry for the "name dropping" in the title, but Mas really did suggest I post here. I hope this info regarding the Light LEM trigger is of interest to HK users.

I originally posted a question on the CARRY ISSUES board about the Light LEM trigger under the title: "Rather than bug Mas, I came here to ask you guys"

My question was regarding possible legal issues after a self defense shooting with a pistol that had the Light LEM installed. Mas is always advising folks to leave their self defense guns pretty much stock - especially triggers - in order to avoid opposing counsel using modifications or a "hair trigger" as a hook to hang his argument on of why you, the shooter, should go to prison.

It is my understanding that HK LEM pistols sold in the US come as V2 (heavy LEM) and that V1 (Light LEM) is only offered as conversion to the V2 pistols. With Mas's admonitions about light triggers in mind, that Light LEM gave me some concern. Hence the basis for my post.

After a few replies, Mas himself responded with one of his typically logical suggestions; Contact H&K and ask them. Then please post their response, both on CARRY ISSUES and the HK boards.

So, here is a copy of what I posted today over on the CARRY ISSUES board:

A bit long, but here is my email exchange today with HK Customer Service Team regarding conversion to their “Light LEM trigger. i.e. +/- 5.5 pound pull. I had read somewhere else on the net that the trigger was reduced to 4.5 pounds. My original post referenced that incorrect number.

It was a bit of back and forth, mainly because of my poor writing skills, but I finally did get the answer I was hoping for. That indeed, the Light LEM is safe for Duty Use.

My first email to HK was answered in a few minutes, as were subsequent exchanges. Impressive customer service.

==========

Me:

My questions are in regard to the LEM trigger system on my P2000SK 9MM-V2 s/n - (serial # of my pistol).

The P2000SK page of your website states:* “Optional adjustment by an HK certified armorer can bring the trigger pull into the 5.5 pound (24.5 N) range.”

1) Is this optionally lightened trigger still considered safe for “Duty Use” by private citizens and/or Law Enforcement in the USA?

2) Must I send my pistol to H&K for the trigger adjustment by one of your armorers’, or can I purchase the parts and install them myself?

===============

HK:

Ed, the V2 (Standard LEM) can be converted to the V1 (Lt LEM). It is safe but it would be up to the Department to determine if it meets the their own specific requirements. We would recommend sending the gun in to our facility to make the conversion. Please call the below number to set up the RMA. *The cost would be approximately $80 plus return shipping.

===================

Me:

Thanks for the prompt reply.

Sorry, but I should have made myself more clear. I never did very well at english composition. I am a private citizen with a CCW license not LE. I didn’t know what other term to use, that’s why I asked if it is safe for “Duty Use.” May I assume from your response that that lightened trigger is considered appropriate for private citizen use.

As for your recommendation that I send in my gun for the conversion, is that really required? Can’t I install those parts myself?

==============

HK:

Ed, as for as safe to use. All that I can attest to is that it is safe as far as the design. *The actual 'safe to use' would be determined by the amount of training that you have. It is not a 'hair trigger.' We do have many private citizens who prefer the "Lt" LEM.

Although it is not required we always recommend that the gun be sent in for the conversion, especially if you have never worked on a handgun. *Historically, we have had customers who have attempted the installation and then had to send it back to us for installation. Also, it preserves your warranty should anything go wrong after the installation.

============

Me:

Yes, I totally agree with your position regarding the word, “safe” being a function of training. That’s why I had changed my second email to read “appropriate for private citizen use”. Thanks for the clarification. I now have confidence in knowing that the conversion itself will not cause any legal issues should I ever have to use the gun in self defense .

As a U.S. Licensed Aircraft Mechanic, I am very comfortable working on machines, and do have a fair amount of experience with handguns as well. Should I not be able to correctly effect the installation myself, I’ll send the gun to you

DRT .380 acp Too Long?

My friend has been working the kinks out of her G42. Now that it's finally proving itself reliable, she picked up some DRT hollow point rounds along with some others to test.

The OAL of the DRT cartridges is too much to even load into the magazines. Not even the first round will load into any one of her four Glock mags.. Anyone else experienced this?

I told her to return them... even though it's not store policy to take return ammo, I told her I'd go with her. I think they will take care of her. Shes the widow of a retired Army 1sgt., bought the pistol, and both her extra mags (came with 2), and a ton of other stuff from them. I don't think it'll be an issue, but this is something I haven't seen that I can remember. I mean, I've seen some out of spec rounds out of a box before, but all twenty rounds?

There has to be someone else that knows about this. Is it a DRT ammo thing? A G42 thing?(Not that it needs more issues!)

Any ideas on ammo? XTP and Gold Dots are scarce around here in .380. I would order her some if I knew they would be reliable in her pistol, but we are still in trial and error with carry ammo..

Thanks, and be safe.

Fairbanks campus priest charged with DUI, drugs and weapons

FAIRBANKS—A University of Alaska Fairbanks parish priest has been arrested on charges of driving under the influence and misdemeanor drugs and weapons offenses.

Father Sean P. Thomson, 52, was stopped Monday at 228 Mile Parks Highway near McKinley Village, according to a criminal complaint filed against him Tuesday. He pleaded not guilty at an initial court hearing and has been released on $5,000 bail. Thomson remains a priest for the Catholic Diocese of Fairbanks but has been placed on administrative leave, said Ronnie Rosenberg, legal coordinator and the director of human resources for the diocese.

Thomson was driving a blue 2002 GMC Sierra pickup truck that was weaving, crossing the center line and speeding 79 mph in a 65 zone, trooper Christopher Bitz wrote in the criminal complaint. Bitz said Thomson seemed disoriented and produced a receipt when asked for his vehicle registration. Asked if he had any weapons, Thomson mentioned a .357 in the back seat but neglected to mention a 9mm pistol in his back pocket, Bitz said. Thomson had a bag with a small quantity of marijuana in the pocket of his hoodie sweatshirt, Bitz said...

Thomson was charged with DUI, refusal to take to a chemical alcohol test, drugs misconduct and two counts of weapons misconduct for both possessing a firearm while intoxicated and failing to immediately inform troopers he was carrying a firearm.

New Bald Eagle front rifle rest from Bullets.com (Review)

Recently bought my first rest. I'm not a bench rest shooter, F class shooter, or competitor otherwise. I have shot some. 0.2-0.4" groups and such, but my fun at this point is from a recreational standpoint and primarily working up good loads. Plan to get into PRS and Desigmated Marksman events this coming year.

I started searching for my first front rest recently and quickly narrowed it down to a Cowan rest or a new Bald Eagle. The Cowan rest is what I would have bought if they took credit cards, as I'm broke at moment. His (Joseph Cowan) rest looks to be an incredible value at $250-ish, but I needed another top, speed screw, and cost quickly got to around $450-500, that I simply didn't have.

Due to finances, I reluctantly went with the aluminum slingshot style Bald Eagle from bullets.com. It was $165 and along with a very nice Bald Eagle rest bag, cost me $200. I read all the mixed reviews here and elsewhere. I spoke with Shiraz regarding some very specific questions about his rest. As I understand it he bought Bald Eagle about 4-5 years back, is a very accomplished F class competitor, and owner of Bullets.com.

It was the smoothest purchase I've made in a long time. The rest was on my door step in four days. The box was in perfect condition and everything within it was simple and intuitively laid out, including great instructions and any tools, T handle Allen, etc.. I opened it up looking for some of the cheapness I read about, some rough machining, something, anything, that would justify the mixed reviews.

It quickly became apparent that people bashing this rest were full of crap. Many potential motivators, maybe after spending $600-1200 on their rest, it just seemed natural to bash a similar item that is a fraction of the price. Honestly, I don't know what motivated people. I took it entirely apart, greased it a bit, carefully reassembled the rest. Installed front bag and went out and had the most enjoyable day at the range ever.

The cross hairs on my Burris Black Diamond 8-32 were eerily steady. I've never seen them so still. I'm not the most accomplished shooter, just a fair shot at best, but I'm improving my skill. I have not had the luxury of shooting on the fancy NEB, Farley, etc rest. Of course they are better, when something cost 10x as much, that is usually the case. I'm going to find a nice Hardigg case on EBay to store and transport my new Bald Eagle. She's going to serve me well for a very long time I suspect.

Might add a Sinclair speed screw, but that's about it. BTW, it will fit threading on aluminum, but not cast iron models. No idea why the threads vary, but it's a quirk I'm willing to overlook. I think Shadetree makes a joystick that can be used on this rest for about $375. Slick product and I may revisit this idea down the road if I justify the need for a joystick. Nice feature I'm sure, but too pricey for me at the moment.

I hate things being outsourced to China. I am a huge fan of older Burris signature and BD scopes, and loathe hearing they are having some scopes made in China. I'm also a fan of $500-700 fly rods, and won't buy any farmed out to overseas manufacturers. My rods are made in Colorado by Scott. So if that alone brings the criticism to the Bald Eagle, I get it. Just as much as the average guy. Big American flag hanging on my garage.

But I will tell you this, if you let people tell you older Bald Eagle rest made in Pennsylvania are great, but the new ones made overseas are junk, you are being misled. Actually, just call it what it is, you are being lied to. This Bald Eagle rest fits together like a Swiss clock and performs flawlessly for a rest at its price point. Carlsbad, or similar name forum member, is selling custom thrush washers to make these and other 3/4" post rest even smoother. Got mine in the other day and can't wait to add it to my Bald Eagle rest.

VA Secretary Lies about being special forces

Just when you thought the VA was going to turn the corner...

"Secretary McDonald has apologized for the misstatement and noted that he never intended to misrepresent his military service," a White House officials told ABC News. "We take him at his word and expect that this will not impact the important work he's doing to promote the health and well-being of our nation's veterans."

This won't affect if veterans get placed on a wait list or not.

leoadventures.com or promotive?

I found promotive and leoadventures online. Does anyone have any experiance with either of these companies? I'm an avid outdoorsman who likes to hunt, fish, backpack, or paddle.

leoadventures requires a $20 to join. I'm just wondering if the discounts are worth joining either of these.

Howard Dean: Scott Walker Says Obama Born In Kenya

Howard Dean: Scott Walker Says Obama Born In Kenya

Quote:

How unhinged has Howard Dean become? So bad that an MSNBC host had to gently walk him back off the ledge.

On Chris Hayes' MSNBC show tonight, Dean claimed that Scott Walker says Barack Obama was "born in Kenya." It took Hayes two attempts to break through Dean's blather, but eventually he was able to politely point out: "I should note, you mention the Kenya thing, he has not been asked that."

I think dean knew that Walker never said that. He just wanted to get it out there and knew that such a lie would take life in the social and liberal media.

Hello from California

Hey guys new to the forum. Recently maybe 3 months ago, bought a used G19 3gen (4th gen illegal here in Cali). I've put almost a thousand rounds through it and I love it. So far I've only upgraded the connector to a Glock - 3.5, the mag release to a Glock extended one and the slide lock to a Glock extended one as well.

Probably get some sights and I think I'll be happy there. Love the gun, looking to get a 34 next!

Yes, I AM TN.Frank. So What?

Yep, I'm TN.Frank, so what's the big deal? I don't have the same e-mail and forgot my password to my original account so I simply started a new account. I don't see why some of ya'll have such issues with that. I mean if you don't want me to hang out here just say so and I'll not darken your door here at GlockTalk again but I didn't think I was doing anything wrong by starting a new account so I could hang out with some of ya'll and talk Glocks and Guns.

Anyway, just wanted to clear that up since some folks here had questions about who I was and "hey, is Frank61 TN.Frank?" so this should put your mind to rest on the subject.

Pyramid Trigger System modification for idpa ssp

So I am about to receive a Glock Store Pyramid Trigger and I like to shoot idpa ssp. Can a oem glock trigger(not the bar, just the trigger itself) be fitted to the Pyramid trigger bar? I don't mind drilling holes and such.

Thanks in advance.

Anyone Seen "BIRDMAN?"......SPOILERS...

Hey all,

I'm wondering how many have seen the movie Birdman. I watched it a few days ago and it's fairly entertaining, but I can't believe that this is the best movie of last year.

Anyway, the biggest question I have about it the ending.

Why would Riggan jump out the window and kill himself? He was just told that his play is going to be a HUGE SUCCESS. He is finally going to get back to what he has wanted for 20 years. The reviewer that said she was going to destroy his play actually wrote a glowing review of it. His best friend and play manager tells him "you did it!" His daughter is proud of him and comes in his hospital room and loves on him a bit, which we never saw in the movie. His life is going to be coming back, his career is back, he is going to have it all again, maybe more. So why does he jump out the window?

I can understand why the daughter looks up and smiles, her Dad is finally free.

How about your interpretation of what happened?

Thanks all

Nalajr

Dumb reloading mistake - need a solution

I was loading cowboy .38 spl. ammo on my Lee Turret press and I recently switched it over to my Dillon 550. In setting up the dies, I apparently flared too much and crimped too little - the foolish part was just eyeballing the rounds, instead of testing them. Now I have 300 rounds of ammo that won't feed.

What's my solution?

Go buy a Lee Factory Crimp Die?

Run them back through the original seating die, readjusted?

Homophobia

So, as shown in our TWD thread, one episode shows a brief episode of two guys kissing and everyone freaks out. How television is pushing gays on society, how immoral it is, how disgusting it is.

I'm not a turd pusher, but I simply don't understand how gay people can effect some of you so much. Are you that close minded? What are you so scared of? It's the same ridiculous, moot points that politics love to bicker about when there are far more concerning issues effecting society.

FS: Serrated Glock Factory Triggers

I recently changed out the serrated faced triggers for smooth on four of my smaller framed Glocks. The triggers are all in excellent shape with low round counts.

(1) for .45/10mm Glocks Gen 4

(1) for 9mm/40/357 Glocks Gen 3

(2) for 9mm/40/357 Glocks Gen 4

I'd like to pass them on to someone who might use them and sell all together if possible.

How about $13 shipped for all 4? I will take Paypal "friend", money order or personal check. Email if interested.
