How big is your hand?

I see a lot of references to big hands, little hands, good fits, etc. and I really don't know if there are objective standards for measuring hands. I consider my hands small to medium, and I think a full-size 1911 fits perfectly. I also like the feel of the "beefy" set of grips I have on my 586:



So... does anyone know the proper method to measure one's hand?
