Need some help

Took the GF and another couple to the range yesterday. The GF and the other couple were shooting Ruger SR9c's. Two didn't have any issues, but the third, on several occasions, wouldn't reset the trigger (it would reset after he removed his finger completely from the trigger). I did fire the weapon but couldn't duplicate the problem. The only thing that I did notice was the shooter that was having the problems was using ALOT of trigger finger (finger was indexing the trigger almost at the second joint). Could this have kept the trigger from resetting? When I mentioned this to him he made the correction and didn't have any further issues (although we didn't shoot much more after I had him correct his trigger position). Curious if I made the correct call or is this a problem with the weapon.
