Florida Keys?

samedi 28 mars 2015

When is the best time to go in terms of climate and cost? We were looking at August/early September-ish, mainly because the kids go back to school in September.

Any Key to avoid / icky / super windy / crime / etc.?

Best places in the Keys/tip of Florida where the water is, to quote Mr. GKL, "like how it looks in the Bahamas"?

Upon completing the sale of our house in Idaho (fingers crossed that it doesn't fall through), we're going to pay off a bunch of debt and take our first proper vacation in six years. Given that we were under some incredibly lean times less than two years ago, this vacation is a whole lot more meaningful to us than just "getting away" for ten days or so. Without sounding too woo, it represents a welcome change in circumstances.

A few notes - we're looking a rent a house, not a condo or townhome or hotel, mainly because we have four kids. We're also looking at beachfront, possibly with a dock, as we have jetskis. We're driving from Virginia, not flying (yeah, long drive, we're used to it).

We're definitely not nightlife, out to eat, party, dressy dinner, need-to-be-around-others types. The kids are also reasonably self-contained, and all they need is water to swim in and they're golden for days.

GamerGirl has given me a busload of information :wavey: but I always enjoy having additional data points from as broad a base as possible.
