PAGE COUNTY - Shenandoah A Page County Sheriff's deputy is recovering after being shot in the leg.

Late Thursday evening, the sheriff's office received a complaint about reckless driving and a hit-and-run with property damage at 314 Old Farms Road in the Town of Shenandoah. Upon investigation, the deputies located the suspect's vehicle, unoccupied, at 127 North West Turn Road in Shenandoah.

The deputies were approached at this location by 40-year-old Glenwood Allen Painter Jr., who was armed with a gun.

That's when a gun battle began, according to the Page County Sheriff's Office.

One deputy received a minor leg injury, while Painter was shot multiple times in the torso. He was transported to U.Va. Medical Center and underwent surgery.
