I have read about and saw pics of Microtech autos for years. I even saw where they made appearances in the series 24 from time to time. I always thought they were really neat looking, but had never seen one in person. Until now.
There's a small gun shop about 5 miles from me and I went in the other day. They have one entire case filled with Emerson, Benchmade and MICROTECH knives. The top shelf they had about 15 autos from the little ones to the great BIG ones.
Of course I had to stop and catch my breath a bit and then I asked the guy if I could see a couple of them. He let me handle and test any of them I wanted and boy let me tell you, I can sure see why people love them. What a piece of work. They really do feel like they are a finely made piece of equipment. The speed and force that those blades shot out the front was impressive, really impressive. Of course the prices are high, as you know for these knives ranging from $275 or so to almost $400 for the BIGGIES.
I was curious to see how many own and/or carry these great looking autos. I just found out that carrying an auto here in Texas is perfectly legal. Every gun shop I've been in down here has a case or display of auto knives. They must be really popular.
I asked the guy if they had ever heard any information about any of their customers that had bought one and was carrying it and then getting pulled over and found by the LEO. I was wanting to know the reaction and words of the LEO when he found the out the front Microtech, especially the one that has the dagger like blade and is about 5 or 6 inches long, the most expensive ones they had. He said he hadn't heard anything like that yet.
Anyway, who has these knives? I'd like to see your collection if you don't mind posting it. Also, do you carry yours? What other autos do you own and carry?
