Dozens of anti-austerity protesters clashed on Wednesday with riot police, which were deployed in Frankfurt to secure the opening of the new headquarters of the European Central Bank, or ECB.
The protesters, some of whom were masked, threw stones at the police and set fire to garbage bins in the center of the German city.
Some 350 people have been detained at the Blockupy protest in Frankfurt on the day the European Central Bank headquarters open in the city. 88 police have been injured in clashes. Tear gas was used against protesters, who pelted stones and torched cars.
