Witness my first Glock explosion yesterday. In a pistol class yesterday, we were running a drill and everyone was partnered up to monitor shot placement.
I heard a loud than normal "bang" and saw a guy running back off the line holding his hand.
His Glock had blown apart, specifically the frame looked like somebody put it through a shredder, you could see all the internals and bits and pieces were lying on the ground around it where he had dropped it.
Diagnosis...need you think too hard about it?
Yup...he was shooting his own reloads and obviously one had, for some reason, got double-charged.
Bang-BOOM-ouch.
As for him, he was wearing gloves, and though I'm sure his hand is sore this morning, he did not break anything and just had a few cuts on his shooting hand thumb and caught a few pieces of fragments on his face which were bleeding.
And, yes he had eye pro on....can't underscore how vital that is....
In the nearly three years I've been taking classes I've seen about a dozen Glock serious malfunctions (this was the worst) and each time it happened as a result of "roll your own" ammo. I've seen a number of squib related problems, but this was the worst.
KA-BOOM
Glocks + Reloads = swim at your own risk.
