I want to expand out from my current 9mm and 380acp handguns.
Considering these two because I want something that will hit harder than 9mm.
I like the idea of getting a 357mag because it gives me the option to plink with light 38 special loads if I want, plus I can get a 38+p snubby for carry and have a reason to set up to load large quantities of 38 special. 357mag also seems like it would be a decent option should the need ever arise, as it isn't likely, but still a possibility that I could encounter a black bear while camping in AZ.
I also like the idea of going 45acp because if I am going to expand into loading another caliber I will justify it by multiple guns down the road. That means, Springfield XD-S for carry, a Glock 21 (or maybe 41) and most definitely getting a 1911.
While I don't know if I would quite trust a 45acp to contend with a bear, a Glock can be easily converted to 10mm with some Buffalo Bore hard cast loaded up or...460 Rowland conversion...something I have wanted to give a try for a very long time.
Not asking if I am right or wrong for one or the other, likely in the next few years I will end up getting whichever I don't right now, but I would be interested to hear opinions on what folks on here would prefer and why.
