Well, as the subject line says, the Devil made me do it. I have a Remington Model 597 .22LR semi auto rifle. Other than operator mistakes, keeping too much back pressure on the trigger to prevent it from resetting, it has been totally reliable with any ammo I've fed it. Probably 3500 rds so far, quite accurate as well.
A few weeks ago, I saw a new one in the Walmart gun section, this one in Mossy Oak Break-Up camo as they call it. It has adjustable open sights vs the inexpensive 2-7X variable that came on the one I bought which has been replaced by a considerably nicer optic.
What I found hard to believe when I first saw it was the price, $148. I paid $207 two years ago for the grey synthetic stocked one. The scope is pretty inexpensive but actually has decent optics for such a bargain basement price. That same gun is now $217.
Well, would you believe that I showed it to my wife (although she has a concealed carry permit, she isnt a gun person) and she thought it looked very nice and actually encouraged me to get it. Hard to believe. Don't normally have two of the same of anything. So, what the hell, I bought it. I'll be delighted if this one is as reliable as the other one, will have two in case Remington goes out of business, who knows? Don
