CROFTON (WJZ) — The Crofton man who was shot in his home by an Anne Arundel County police officer was holding a realistic looking air rifle at the time of the April 4 shooting.
According to police, police entered 21-year-old Dallas Michael Ruff after they received reports from a concerned family member stating Ruff sent messages threatening to harm himself and family members.
Officers entered the home they knocked several times on windows and doors and learned the man’s mother was inside.
When officers entered, police say Ruff was aiming a “rifle” at them from the top of the stairs. He was shot in the stomach by an officer.
Lt. Harry Peterson, a 26-year-veteran of the Anne Arundel County Police Department assigned to the Patrol Services Bureau, was put on paid administrative leave following the incident.
After further investigation, police learned the rifle was a realistic-looking air rifle known as a Gamo gun...
